It’s a good idea to setup email notifications for WordPress. Especially if you don’t want to enable auto updates on your plugins and themes.
Let’s Get Started
WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New
In the search box type in: WP Updates Notifier.
When you the plugins populates, click on Install Now and then click on Activate.
Once activated you are going edit the settings.

When the page loads, it should look like the below image:
The default settings are perfect, and I would not recommend that you change anything.
This plugin will send you emails if your plugins, themes and the WordPress needs to be updated. If do not want those options, uncheck them as you see fit.
Frequency to check: How often do you want the plugin to check for updates.
Email Notifications: Make sure that you have an email address that you check daily.
Slack Notifications: Ignore this section.
Save settings.
