You’ve installed WordPress, and now you would like to customize your site. Plugins are awesome, and they help you enhance your website. There are hundreds and even thousands of plugins that you can choose from: contact form, membership site, downloads etc. Whatever you need, most likely there’s a plugin for it. Whether its free or premium( paid plugins) the options are endless.
Let’s get started
First off, you need to have an actual WordPress website. Not a free one from WordPress.org, because you won’t see the plugin option. You need a WordPress website that is on a self-hosted web host. I recommend Siteground and Bluehost.

Installing a Plugin
Sign in to your WordPress Dashboard: www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin
Once you sign in, WordPress will redirect you to the dashboard. Scroll down to Plugins and select the option.
Click on Add New. You can search the database for a specific plugin. Those plugins are uploaded from the WordPress directory and they offer both free and premium options.
Using the search function, type in the name of the plugin or what it does. For example, if you are looking for a membership plugin, type in ‘Membership‘. Automatically your options will populate. See below:
Browse through the options and pick the best one. Once you’ve decided on a plugin, click on Install Now.
The Install Now button will convert into an Activate button. Click on Activate.
Note: The Plugin will be installed on your website, usually within seconds. However, you will not be able to use the features until you activate it.
Once you click on Activate, it will install and redirect you to your installed plugins. Scroll down and find your installed plugin. Once you’ve confirmed that it’s there, that’s it, you’ve installed and activated your chosen plugin.
Note: When you are browsing always look at the bottom of the container for star ratings, compatibility with your version of WordPress, and when it was last updated. You don’t want a plugin that never gets updated. Or ratings suck and it is not compatible with your WordPress. It will give you all kinds of problems, and if it hasn’t been updated in a while, support may be limited.
Enable Auto-Updates
Most plugins allow WordPress to automatically update the plugins when new versions are released. It’s a good idea to click on Enable auto-updates, so you never have to manually update the plugin. Click here to find out why you should keep your WordPress/ Plugins updated.
The final step is to customize your plugin settings. I cannot guide you on how to edit plugins because every plugin has its own documentation. Its recommended to find the plugin creators, go to their website and most have documentation or forums if you need help.
Upload a plugin
Additionally, if you purchased a plugin, not through the WordPress directory maybe you purchased it from the creator directly or Codecanyon, you can upload this plugin manually.
Once the plugin is downloaded to your computer, usually, it’s in a zip file, browse to: WordPress Navigation > Plugins > Add New.
Click on Upload Plugin.
Click on Choose File and upload the zip file.
After you uploaded the zip file, click on Install Now. A Successful message will populate, letting you know that everything went smoothly.
You will see a blue button: Activate Plugin, click on it.
Once it’s activated, you can start customizing your settings.

DIY Premade theme
That is entirely dependant on you and your knowledge of WordPress. It can take anywhere from a day to three days. Or a week or longer.
Custom Design
Anywhere from 1 to 4 months. Keep in mind that we are human, and sometimes unexpected situations may pop up out of nowhere. 1 to 4 months, assuming that you have provided all the information and the hosting is already taken care of.
Setting Up Demo Site
3 – 5 days to set up demo site. Again, that is dependant on the fact that you already have your hosting set up.
Important notes
Hosting may take a few days to set up or transfer, both of which are out of our control. If a domain transfer is needed, it can take anywhere from 2-7 extra business days. We have ZERO control of the domain transfer but in the meantime, we would create your site on our servers, and when your domain transfer is completed all we do is transfer over the files.
A landing page is for your most recent book or first in a series, to receive the spotlight. The page is to call to action, whether to buy, newsletter sign up something watch a trailer etc. You want to hook the readers, and they buy.
Here is an example of a landing page.
Book Page: All of your books are on (1) page. Usually, the covers will link to a universal link or amazon page. The book sections can then be divided into series sections and each book will be under the ‘Series’ title. However, everything is on the same page. View the example here.
Series Page: If you have many book series released, for example ‘Series A’ ‘Series B’ ‘Series C’ SDS can create 3 additional pages for your series, so not everything is on (1) book page. The books only in ‘Series A’ will be displayed and we can add a summary, review quotes, and links. Or keep it simple with cover images and ‘Buy Now’ button(s).
Single Book Page: This is the spotlight for a single book. Only information for that book will be displayed. View the example here.
When receiving a Custom Web Design, it is recommended that you transfer your domain name to our servers. It is NOT mandatory and your website will work without the transfer.
When you request a domain transfer you will receive a code, which you will provide to us. You will need to visit your web host and follow their instruction on how to complete/receive a transfer code.
The below web hosts are reputable and have proven over and over that they are reliable. Granted, not everything is perfect but we will only work with the list below.
Cheaper or free web hosts always give problems and headaches.

Issues With Custom Web Design and Self-install templates.
If you encounter problems with your design or WordPress/ host, feel free to submit a ticket. It may take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours to reply. Depending on your issue, browse our knowledge Center and find a solution. That may be faster, than waiting for me to reply.
Note: You can submit a ticket, however, you need a maintenance package in order for me to fully help you.
I am being this strict because cheap or free web hosting, gives problems and errors. They DO NOT have the proper systems to maintain our high-quality websites. If you order a custom web design and I don’t agree with your web host, I will give you the chance to purchase one from our recommended list. If not, we will cancel and refund your order.
If you purchase a self-install theme, I won’t be able to help you if you opt to have a cheap one.
To purchase a WordPress addon:
- Browse Addon(s)
- When you find which addon you would like, click on the icon to read about it/buy.
Container
When you create a container, it’s a whole other section. It’s separate from other containers and columns. This will come in handy when you have different sections on your page, and you need to organize what information is in certain sections. You should always name your containers so you know what is in them.
Columns
When you create a column, you are adding column(s) into a container. Columns cannot be renamed, or are viewed as a separate area, like a container. You cannot organize columns into separate sections. Columns help embellish a container.
You can easily sign into the WordPress Dashboard. On your browser’s address bar, type in:
www.yoursite.com/wp-admin or www.yoursite.com/wp-login.php
Fill in your WordPress Username(Email address) and admin password. If you had set up your own WordPress then you should have set them up during the installation phase. If Sajah’s Design Studio had set it up for you, you should have received these files in documentation after your project completion.
Once you have logged in, you will be redirected to your Dashboard and from there you can manage it.
